South Korean musician PSY has made history as his popular single ‘Gangnam Style’ has become the first video in the history of the Internet to be viewed more than one billion times, Venture Beat is reporting. While the YouTube official view counter is usually delayed up to 48 hours, the video sharing website has confirmed the music video has reached the milestone mark.

‘Gangnam Style’ first garnered fame when it reached 350 million views in September after 60 days, surpassing Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ as the number one viral video of all time. PSY’s video has also exceeded Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ music video as the most viewed of all time on YouTube.

‘Gangnam Style’ was the top rising search of 2012 on YouTube, and on October 6, there were more than five million searches for the video. The song and video have generated over $8.1 million in advertising deals and has sold more than 2.9 million song downloads. PSY is also the first Korean artist to ever reach #1 on the U.S. iTunes chart.
